Japan Airlines (JAL) and Japan Air Systems (JAS) are to code share on four
JAS Japan-China routes from January 10, expanding JAL's Japan-China route network to 10
destinations in China and greatly adding to customer convenience.
Airline code sharing on Japan-China routes has been made possible
following an agreement reached between Japan and China in bilateral talks in
September this year.
The code sharing is a further step towards the complete integration of JAL
and JAS that will lead to the creation of a new carrier, Japan Airlines International, in April 2004.
The four JAS routes involved are: Narita- Shanghai* (daily),
Narita-Guangzhou (daily), Narita- Xian (twice weekly, Monday and Friday) and
Narita-Kumming (twice weekly, on Wednesday and Saturday.) From January 10, 2003, JAS flights on these four routes will carry JAL flight numbers in
addition to JAS flight numbers. JAS operates Airbus A300-600 aircraft on all
four routes in two-classes, business and economy class.
With the inclusion of these new code share flights with JAS, JAL will have the
biggest Japan-China route network, serving a total of 10 destinations in
China: Beijing, *Shanghai, Hong Kong, Dalian, Qingdao, Tianjin, Xiamen,
Guangzhou, Xian and Kumming. (*JAL already serves Shanghai from Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya).
Members of the JAL Mileage Bank, the JAL frequent flyer programme, will be
able to earn miles on these code share flights. |
