JAL is up-dating "JAL Executive Class - SEASONS", the airline's own branded business class, with a range of new service items and a new, flat reclining seat, the "Shell Flat Seat."

Designed in a stylish shell-shape, JAL' Shell Flat Seat arrangement has maximum 62-inch pitch and has a full recline of 170 degrees for better sleeping comfort when in bed mode. The shell form enhances passenger relaxation and privacy
In addition the seat is equipped with an adjustable flat footrest that folds up to extend the length of the seat in recline. It also includes a built-in massage function. The armrests fold down to create a total width in bed mode of 23.5 inches for greater comfort. When fully extended in bed mode, the Shell Flat Seat is 190 cm (75 in.) long.
A newly developed seat adjustment system incorporating four independent motors and gear systems ensures a soft, smooth seat movement at the touch of a button on the seat control panel.
The new Shell Flat Seat, replacing the original JAL Skyluxe seat introduced in 1996, will be introduced gradually on the Tokyo-London route (flights JL401/402) from July 25th and will be available on a daily basis from autumn. Introduction of the Shell Flat Seat on the Tokyo-New York route (flights JL006/005) starts in September and eventually the seat will be available on these flights on a daily basis later in the winter season.
JAL will introduce the new seat on selected long-range routes to Europe and North America during 2003. Altogether 16 of JAL's long-range aircraft will be fitted with the new seat.
Together with the new Shell Flat Seat, JAL has upgraded the 'Magic' entertainment system providing AVOD (audio/video on demand). New 10.4-inch video monitors are installed in the back of the seat in front, replacing the current 6.4-inch screens mounted in armrests.
AC power points for personal computers are also to be installed from Autumn 2002.
