Thai Airways Arranges Open-Bid Procurement for Inflight Products

Travel News Asia 5 September 2002

Today (September 5, 2002) at Thai’s Head Office on Vibhavadi Rangsit Road, the Purchasing Committee of Thai Airways International Public Company Limited held a monthly open-bid meeting chaired by Mr. Kanok Abhiradee, Thai’s President to select inflight products, utilities, beverages and packaged food for service and sale on board Thai flights.

Mr. Kanok Abhiradee, Thai’s President, said that the products involved in the selection process will differ each month due to the fact that each of the selected products is contracted for one year. Process will again be conducted after the contract expires.

A procurement notice will be displayed at Thai’s headquarters 15 days prior to the bidding process for those items which do not require samples such as printed materials food menus and on-board First Aid medicines. A procurement notice will be put up between 30-45 days prior to bidding for sample-required products such as travel kits. The Purchasing Committee will then select and make a quality check of each product. This year, Thai focuses on good procurement governance and has invited auditors and media as witnesses of the selection process.

The suppliers should have been established for over one year with registered capital of not less than THB 1 million and have possessed no record of professional negligence. There are altogether 11 products on the list of items, such as travelling kits, sachets of sugar, crystal champagne glasses and children story books etc, which amounted to an estimated total budget of THB 127 million.
