BAE SYSTEMS Regional Aircraft has won a 5-year extension to its JetSpares contract with Italy's AzzurraAir. The deal, which provides spares support for seven Avro RJ regional jets, is expected to generate revenues in the region of US$11 million over the period.
Jetspares is an individually customised support programme, designed to allow an airline to concentrate on its operation while BAE SYSTEMS takes care of spares inventory, logistics and repairs. There are now 108 BAe 146 / Avro RJ aircraft in the JetSpares programme, with the priority of keeping the airline's business running smoothly by providing a first-class spares support service and fixed monthly costs.
AzzurraAir operates four Avro RJ70 and three RJ85 aircraft, in a code-sharing arrangement with Italian flag carrier Alitalia, connecting Milan Malpensa with Stockholm, Kobenhavn, Hamburg, Oporto, Thessaloniki, Bilbao and Rome. These aircraft have been supported under JetSpares since 1997, but AzzurraAir decided to offer the contract for competitive bids when it became due for renewal.
Technical Director Stefano Biagini said: "The arrangement we have with Alitalia demands high aircraft despatch reliability, while we need predictable and contained costs. The BAE SYSTEMS JetSpares product was chosen after competitive tendering because it offered the best solution and warranted level of service."
Alan Fraser, Managing Director of BAE SYSTEMS Regional Aircraft commented: "This contract renewal is especially pleasing as it confirms that we have achieved the high standards we set ourselves. It provides for a decade-long relationship with AzzurraAir, covering their airframe rotable components and the APU. With the current radical restructuring of Regional Aircraft into a service business, we intend to continue developing and improving our services so that we can offer airlines even greater added value in the future."
