Air New Zealand has offered Mount Cook Airport for sale with tenders from interested parties due by mid-August 2002.
This is part of the airline's programme to focus on its core air transport operations and follows the sale of other assets this year: nzski.com (May); Jetset Retail (April) and Jetset Business Travel (March).
The Mount Cook Airport is currently operated by the Mount Cook Group, a subsidiary of Air New Zealand, and is subject to a ground lease administered by the Department of Conservation.
The terminal facility is only a year old, having been rebuilt last year after a fire destroyed the original building in June 2000.
While Air New Zealand is not currently operating regular scheduled services to Mount Cook, the airport is used by charter operators and the Mount Cook Ski Plane service which operates regular scenic flights in the area. |
