Today (30 April 2002), Mr. Srisook Chandrangsu, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transport and Communications and also THAI's Vice Chairman, presided over a ceremony to present certificates to new captains and commemorative souvenirs to THAI staff who have been with the company for 25 years, as part of Thai Airways International's activities to celebrate its 42nd Anniversary, at THAI's Head Office.
Certificates were presented to 11 new captains and commemorative souvenirs were presented to 387 THAI staff who have been with the company for 25 years. These annual ceremonies are held in recognition of the staff's efforts and dedication.
Thai Airways International was established on 1 May 1960, and this year, to mark the airline's 42nd anniversary, Mr. Virabongsa Ramangkura, THAI's Chairman, will preside over a religious ceremony at THAI's Head Office. THAI will also hold a range of charitable activities, including offering alms to monks at the Buddhist Monks' Hospital and hosting lunch for underprivileged children, senior citizens and at the Mahamek Home for Boys.
On May 1, 2002, special desserts will be served on all THAI flights. "Pumpkin Charlotte" cake will be served on all THAI international flights and "Orange Cake" on all THAI domestic flights departing from Bangkok.
THAI has achieved 37 consecutive years of profitability and has a total of 81 aircraft in its fleet. During 2001-2002, THAI inaugurated flight operations to four new destinations namely Mumbai (India), Chengdu (the People's Republic of China), Busan (the Republic of Korea) and Kuwait. THAI has also adopted e-Business systems to increase efficiency of products and services when flying with THAI. The introduction of Royal e-Ticketing and automatic kiosks will help enhance passenger convenience in the areas of ticket and reservations, offering an alternation channel of distribution.
Thai Airways International plans investment in the relocation of some parts of its operations to the new Suvarnabhumi Airport in response to the government policy to promote the new airport as the air transport hub of this region.
