More than 900 hotel industry leaders from over 40 countries attended the 5th annual International Hotel Investment Forum (IHIF), held March 3-5, 2002 in Berlin, Germany. According to IHIF organizers, this represented a 23% increase in attendance over the 2001 event. The IHIF was hosted and organized by Advanstar Communications/Hotel & Motel Management, Burba Hotel Network (BHN) and Insignia Hotel Partners.
Delegates of IHIF were polled on various trends in the European hotel industry, according to co-host Scott Pierce, executive vice president of Advanstar Communications. "The results of the survey show that 47% of the IHIF delegates believe that the industry will rebound from the effects of events in 2001 within the next year. This compares to only 9% who believe it will take two years or more to recover," Pierce stated. Pierce added that the survey indicated a clear increase in optimism and business confidence in the European market among the leaders attending
IHIF.
