Name change in Basel as Crossair bows out

2 July 2002

The final chapter in the story of Crossair will be written today when the Crossair logo atop the airline’s Basel head office is replaced by the new name of Swiss International Air Lines which was recently approved by the company’s Annual General Meeting. The name of the Crosscat training centre will also be changed, as will the company’s ticker symbol on the Swiss stock exchange.

Just under a hundred days after SWISS, Switzerland’s new intercontinental airline, first took to the skies, the last chapter is about to be written in the history of its predecessor: the Crossair logo will be removed today from the company’s recently-expanded head office at EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg. The new SWISS logo will be put into place on the roof of the company’s main building by a crane.

The new look follows the decision by the company’s shareholders at their Annual General Meeting in mid-May to conduct future flight operations under the SWISS brand and change the company name to Swiss International Air Lines Ltd. to reflect the carrier’s new strategic orientation.

In a parallel move, the name of the company’s training centre will also change today. Crosscat, the joint venture between Swiss International Air Lines and General Electric Capital Aviation Training, will now be known as Swiss AviationTraining Ltd. Plans are also being prepared to merge the former Swissair Training Center and the former Crosscat AG into a single corporate entity.

In the light of the change of company name, the shares of Swiss International Air Lines Ltd. will be traded on the SWX Swiss stock exchange under the ticker symbol of SWIN (instead of CRON) from July 2 onwards. The shares’ securities number – 1 326 969 – remains unchanged.
