KLM AirCares, KLM's corporate charity program will be supporting the relief organization War Child during April, May and June 2002. A wide range of media, including inflight videos, Holland Herald inflight magazine, and the internet, will be used to ask KLM passengers to support the creative workshops organized by War Child. Donations can be made by credit card, and frequent fliers can donate frequent flier points which War Child can exchange for tickets.
In the past decade alone, one and half million children have been killed through acts of war. A further four million children have suffered permanent injury, while some ten million have been traumatized for life by the horrors they have witnessed. The Dutch chapter of War Child strives to support the latter group, by helping them to deal with these horrific experiences. The organization achieves this through various creative activities. With the aid of music, drama and art work, these children learn to play once more, to cooperate and express their emotions. Creativity sparks their imagination and stimulates them to develop their skills. In so doing, these war-scarred children regain confidence in themselves, each other, and a future without war.
The creative workshops organized by War Child also aim to teach the children new skills. They include a variety of exercises and activities aimed at:
improving their ability to concentrate;
expanding their powers of imagination;
increasing self-confidence;
fostering self-respect;
generating greater cooperation
teaching the children to express their emotions
relaxation.
KLM AirCares wholeheartedly supports these objectives and hopes its support will serve as an impetus for further development of these creative workshops.
