PATA TRAVEL MART TO CONTINUE IN SINGAPORE

Singapore Tourism Board (STB) supports and welcomes the decision by Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) to stage the PATA Travel Mart in Singapore from 1 - 3 October 2003. The PATA decision, announced on 27 June 2002, also indicated PATA's intention to operate the Mart on its own with effect from 2003.

Since 1998 and up to this year, the Mart has been organised for PATA by Reed Travel Exhibitions (RTE) under an agreement co-signed with the host destination, represented by the STB. At PATA's and RTE's request, the three parties reviewed the terms and conditions for next year with the eventual decision agreed by all parties concerned to have the event managed directly by PATA. RTE will therefore not be organising the Mart henceforth. 

Mr Yeo Khee Leng, Chief Executive of STB said; "Singapore is pleased that PATA has decided to continue to stage the PATA Travel Mart in Singapore next year. The STB has actively been involved in the discussions with PATA, as well as its partners, which have led to this decision. We believe this development will be for the long-term growth of the event."

"We see the PATA Travel Mart as an international travel exchange - a centre where products and services and travel information can be created, refined, exchanged and integrated for all interested parties. We certainly would like to see the PATA Travel Mart grow and maintain its status as the premier event for the travel and trade industry in Asia Pacific," Mr Yeo added.

Singapore Airlines (SIA), a key partner in this endeavour, has re-affirmed its commitment to the event. Mr Huang Cheng Eng, Executive Vice President, Marketing and the Regions, SIA said; "The PATA Travel Mart is an important occasion in the region's calendar of tourism-related events, and we are glad to give it our continued support. We are sure that the PATA Travel Mart will continue to play a major role in helping to grow tourism in the Asia Pacific region." 

The Mart has been anchored in Singapore since in 1998. The STB, together with the rest of the members of the Singapore Host Committee and other industry partners, have provided unstinting support to ensure the successful staging of the Mart since then. With this new development, the STB and its partners will remain committed to the Mart and continue to provide strong and integrated support to ensure its successful staging in Singapore.

The Singapore Host Committee comprises the following members: STB, Singapore Hotel Association, National Association of Travel Agents Singapore, Association of Singapore Attractions and Singapore Retailers Association.

Other key partners include Suntec City Development Pte Ltd and Singapore Telecommunications Ltd, which have provided substantial support for the Mart.

The next PATA Travel Mart will continue to take place at the Singapore International Convention & Exhibition Centre.
