Delta Air Lines Starts New Flight to Italy Customers Can Connect to 21 European Destinations via Rome

27 June 2002

Delta Air Lines’ (NYSE:DAL) Cincinnati customers will be able to fly nonstop from Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport to Rome, Italy beginning Monday, July 1, 2002.

"This will be Cincinnati’s first nonstop service to Italy and will operate during the summer season through September. Rome is the largest transatlantic destination not already served nonstop by Delta from Cincinnati, and the new flight gives our customers significant new access to the European hub of our SkyTeam partner Alitalia," said Scott Yohe, Delta’s senior vice president - Government Affairs.

According to Yohe, "This new international service is another tangible example of the positive economic and consumer benefits attributable to ‘open skies’ and strong alliance partnerships such as SkyTeam."

The new flight will feature the 268-seat MD-11 aircraft, offering Delta’s award-winning BusinessElite service with seats in a 2x2x2 configuration and 60 inches of pitch.

Delta’s SkyTeam partner Alitalia will offer code-share service on the new Rome flight. From Rome, Delta offers customers codeshare service on 82 Alitalia flights to 17 destinations in Italy and four destinations in Europe.

Delta and its partners already offer Cincinnati customers nonstop service to six international destinations, including Frankfurt, Germany; London, Montreal, Nassau, Bahamas; Paris and Toronto.

Top-tier flyers with the SkyTeam airlines (AeroMexico, Air France, Alitalia, CSA Czech Airlines, Delta and Korean Air) receive elite status on all member airline flights. Additionally, all SkyTeam member airline frequent flyers accrue miles and redeem awards on any of the six airlines.

Alitalia, which operates hubs in Milan and Rome, has more than 869 daily flights to 100 destinations in 47 countries. Founded in 1946, more than 24 million passengers flew on Alitalia last year. Alitalia has a fleet of 162 aircraft.

At the Cincinnati hub, Delta and the Delta Connection offer 520 flights daily with nonstop service to 142 destinations.
