Travel News Asia 27 August 2002

SRS-WORLDHOTELS has announced that Stamford Hotels & Resorts has entered into a private label agreement with SRS-WORLDHOTELS with immediate effect. This is the second private label member in Asia/Pacific for SRS-WORLDHOTELS after Pan Pacific Hotels & Resorts.

Comprising 10 premium quality hotels with a total of 2,300 rooms throughout Australia and New Zealand, the fast-growing new Stamford Hotels & Resorts is set to substantially increase SRS-WORLDHOTELS’ presence in Oceania and greatly enhance its reach in the Asia/Pacific region. Eight of these hotels will join as members of SRS-WORLDHOTELS Deluxe Collection and two as First Class Collection members.

Stamford Hotels & Resorts began operations in 1996 and takes its name from the founder of Singapore, Sir Stamford Raffles.

“We are delighted to welcome Stamford Hotels & Resorts to SRS-WORLDHOTELS and look forward to a mutually rewarding cooperation,” said Roland Jegge, Vice President Asia Pacific, SRS-WORLDHOTELS. “Through our dynamic and well-developed international marketing network we expect to strongly grow the share of international business for these fine properties in Australasia.”

Said Allan Hui, Chief Operating Officer of Stamford Hotels & Resorts: “The agreement gives bonus mileage to both parties – being a member of SRS-WORLDHOTELS will give Stamford Hotels and Resorts wider reach and a more international marketing network, while SRS-WORLDHOTELS will be able to offer its clients an exquisite range of award-winning hotels in key Australian and New Zealand cities.”

The switch over date in the global distributions systems (GDS) took place on August 26, 2002 for Amadeus and Galileo systems and today on August 27, 2002 for Sabre and Worldspan. The “YS” GDS code for the hotel group will be maintained.

Among the properties joining SRS-WORLDHOTELS are two of the region’s finest luxury hotels located in Sydney and the exclusive Double Bay. The latter sits alongside an intimate boutique hotel in this, Sydney’s restaurant and shopping heartland. Besides these are some of the finest hotels in Brisbane, Adelaide, Melbourne and Auckland, complemented with resort style properties in Adelaide and Sydney’s North Ryde, as well as a five star hotel at Sydney Airport.

Currently, SRS-WORLDHOTELS has more than 400 member hotels in its portfolio, representing over 70,000 rooms in 65 countries and 250 destinations worldwide. SRS-WORDLHOTELS’ Asia/Pacific operation has grown dramatically to 20 staff in four offices around the region and the company has more than 60 properties in Asia/Pacific .
