Cyprus Airways is planning to showcase its recent fleet expansion at Arabian Travel Market 2002, the Middle East's premier travel and tourism event, which will be in held in Dubai next month (May).
The national carrier of Cyprus is due to take delivery of two new A319 aircraft one of which will come into service on two key Gulf routes
Bahrain-Dubai-Larnaca and Jeddah-Riyadh-Larnaca.
"The new aircraft have upgraded inflight entertainment facilities enabling movies to be screened on most routes," said Stavros D. Kyprianou, Manager, Middle East & Gulf, Cyprus Airways. "Club Class will also be upgraded by having fewer seats and allowing more leg room."
The upgraded fleet and facilities are to be unveiled to tour operators and travel agents during an Arabian Travel Market presentation.
"We are also looking to get our message firmly across to the public by staging a consumer day competition offering two return tickets to Cyprus and three nights accommodation," said
Kyprianou.
The Cypriot carrier's Gulf upgrades come as traffic from Dubai to the Mediterranean island grew by 10% last year on 2000 traffic.
"Much of this growth was due to the introduction of special package deals," explained Kyprianou. "Traffic from other Gulf states was static but we are now looking to rectify that by strongly focussing on the leisure market from the GCC with more Cypriair Holiday Packages."
Cyprus Airways is one of 13 international, regional and domestic airlines directly participating with their own stands in Arabian Travel Market 2002, which will run at the Airport Expo Dubai, from May
7-10.
"Other carriers will also be represented on stands organised by national tourism boards," explained Matt Thompson, Group Exhibition Director, Overseas Events, Reed Travel Exhibitions (RTE), which organises the show.
"Air travel remains a key focus of the exhibition which covers the full spectrum of the tourism industry from destinations to accommodation providers, car rental, to luxury yacht cruises."
To date, exhibitors from 54 countries have contracted for Arabian Travel Market 2002, the ninth in the highly-successful annual series.
RTE, which is part of Reed Exhibition Companies (REC), organises 11 events worldwide, including World Travel Market, Arabian Travel Market, C.I.S. Travel Market, EIBTM, British Travel Trade Fair, PATA Travel Market, International Golf Travel Market, Mediterranean Travel Fair, Top Resa, AIME and ICCA Exhibition in association with ICCA Congress.
