Hats off to Mr Patrick Fiat, General Manager of Royal Plaza on
Scotts, Singapore. At this year's Emirates Singapore Derby's "Dressed for the Races"
competition, Mr Fiat not only won himself a return business class ticket
to any destination served by Emirates Airline, but also donated his hat in
an impromptu auction to benefit the Metta School, raising S$2,476 in aid
of disabled children. This amount added on to the S$12,664 raised from a
silent auction for 4 pairs of gold-plated horseshoes, and a S$30,000
direct contribution, bumping up the total amount raised for Metta
School to S$45,140. The silent auction was an Emirates Airline community project
supported by the Community Chest.
What did it take to create this one-of-a-kind hat? A Mexican hat, a
florist for the "landscaping", a trip to Toys 'R Us for the horses, and
lots of creativity.
