Situated in the eastern New Territories, Sai Kung is widely known as "Hong Kong's Back Garden" and is a prime recreation, dining and tourist area.
This natural paradise is in the spotlight as the City of Life Hong Kong is it! campaign's "Recommendation of the Month" during July, as a host of events and tourism-related activities take place in the district over the summer months.
Details of events and activities were announced at an opening ceremony

Sai Kung Hoi Pong Square has been chosen as the main feature for the month-long promotion and a welcome arch erected here to tie in with the "Recommendation of the Month".
This thoroughfare is lined with numerous seafood restaurants offering a wide choice of quality gourmet delights. It is also worth sparing some time to wander through the amiable neighbourhood, browsing in atmospheric arts and crafts and antique furniture shops or taking a break for a coffee or a cool drink in one of a number of quaint coffee shops and bars.
For those who are into Chinese traditions, the Tin Hau Temple in the town centre provides an insight into the lives of an old Chinese fishing village in days gone by.
Apart from Cantonese-style gourmet seafood for which Sai Kung is widely recognised, visitors will be amazed to find a delectable selection of international cuisines. Between June and August, the Sai Kung Food and Beverages Association is holding the "Sai Kung Seafood Carnival", with special offers available in the district's restaurants. Copies of the promotional leaflet can be obtained at HKTB Visitor Information and Services.
Exciting programmes such as Chinese dance, acrobatics, jazz and pop music, as well as street performances, Chinese arts and crafts demonstrations and face painting, will be arranged by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department during the summer holiday carnivals on three Sundays (7, 14 and 28 July).
Sai Kung is renowned for its breathtaking historic and scenic spots all of which are easily accessible. Information on these attractions can be found in July's Attractions, a publication specially produced by the
HKTB.
Since September 2001, each of Hong Kong's 18 districts has been taking its turn to promote its attractions as the "Recommendation of the Month", part of the City of Life: Hong Kong is it! campaign.
The campaign is organised by the HKTB in co-operation with the Hong Kong SAR Government's Home Affairs Department, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and the Tourism Commission, with the support of the 18 District Councils and with The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust as Principal Sponsor. |
