Northwest Airlines Launches New Industry-Leading Self-Service Reservation Change And E-Ticket Exchange On Nwa.Com

24 June 2002

Northwest Airlines announced today an industry first - a new online self-service product that allows customers to make reservation changes and complete E-Ticket exchanges online at the airline’s web site, www.nwa.com. This new functionality also includes fares purchased online.

The new online feature allows Northwest customers to access the same industry-leading technology used by the airline’s reservation agents.

“This feature gives customers the self-sufficiency they’ve asked for. In a few simple steps they can change their reservations, price a travel itinerary and confirm an E-Ticket exchange online regardless of where the ticket was purchased,” said Al Lenza, vice president of distribution and e-commerce. “We are pleased that Northwest is the first airline to offer an online ticket exchange service, another innovation to make travel more convenient for our customers.”

To use this feature, customers simply display their E-Ticket reservation, available through the Travel Planner section of www.nwa.com. Any E-Ticket customer can use the online exchange service, regardless of where the original reservation and ticket purchase was made. E-Ticket customers will be prompted automatically to use the new exchange process.

Customers can review available Northwest and Northwest partner flights, select new flights for travel, change all or part of their itinerary, change their cabin class (first class, business or coach), and choose a different departure city, connection point or arrival city. As they consider flight changes, customers also can examine any charges that may apply to the new itinerary. Once new flight selections are made, customers can review their entire itinerary before confirming the new itinerary.

Northwest’s customers choose electronic tickets 79 percent of the time for their domestic travel. E-Tickets allow customers access to several conveniences such as self-service check-in on nwa.com or at an airport E-Service Center kiosk.

Northwest Airlines is the world's fourth largest airline with hubs at Detroit, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Memphis, Tokyo and Amsterdam and more than 1,700 daily departures. With its travel partners, Northwest serves nearly 750 cities in almost 120 countries on six continents.
