But within this world, we the people of Dubai are trying to create an environment where children can enjoy their rights - rights to innocence and unblemished happiness in a world where each person is equal."
"Every year, we bid farewell to an event and welcome another. Just two months ago, we bid adieu to Dubai Shopping Festival 2002, and today we are preparing ourselves to welcome Dubai Summer Surprises, an event that converts the Emirate into a summer resort for the world."
"Dubai Summer Surprises has played a key role in keeping the economic engine running at a smooth pace in the less active months of the year. The success of DSS proves that the UAE excels in creating ideas and translating them into projects that become landmarks that play a very crucial role in tourism and economic fields. The idea that was conceptualised 5 years ago, under the wise leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, has already started delivering on its results. Dubai is indeed having an active summer in the retail and tourism sectors." HH Sheikh Ahmed said.
The excellent promotions each summer have increased the number of visitors every year. Last year's results show that 1.96 million visited Dubai Summer Surprises 2001, and Dubai recorded Dhs. 1.18 billion in sales, a record achievement in all respects.
Referring to the growth of DSS, HH Sheikh Ahmed said Dubai Summer Surprises had succeeded in expanding its canvas and adding several new elements each year.
"Tourism related promotions such as Dubai Summer Surprises are a showcase of excellent co-ordination between government and the private sector. Dubai is getting some very enviable projects due to the success of Dubai Summer Surprises." HH Sheikh Ahmed said.
Highlighting the role of the key sponsors, HH Sheikh Ahmed said, "I would like to express my appreciation of the crucial role played by the private sector in contributing to the development of economy through innovative projects launched on a regular basis, and through the sponsorship of events taking place round the year."
"This year the government departments are putting together an even better calendar of events for each of the 10 themed Surprises." HH Sheikh Ahmed added.
Mr. Saeed Mohammed Al Nabouda, Chief Executive Officer, DSS, thanked the key sponsors for their commitment and support.
"Dubai Summer Surprises has drastically changed the trade and tourism scene in the UAE in summer and enhanced Dubai's prestige as the preferred Arab family destination all round the year. It has capitalised on the Surprises element, and has given tourism, a completely new dimension. Every year there are new activities waiting to be discovered, and each event and activity gives fun, entertainment and knowledge to families with children." said Mr. Al
