All Nippon Airways (ANA) and United Airlines
(United) reached an agreement today to give ANA flight code to United flights between Kansai and Honolulu.
This code-share agreement comes as United resumes its service on the route on March 30, 2003, the first day of the summer schedule. That service has been suspended since October 1998.
ANA Group's "Air Japan" operates a daily roundtrip service between Kansai and Honolulu since March 2002. In accordance with the code sharing of the route, ANA will suspend its own operation and use the aircraft in order for increases in sales. ANA has decided to double in frequency of flights between Kansai and Shanghai where further expanded demand is expected.
The introduction of the new code sharing allows United to drastically improve efficiency. Aircraft on overnight layover at Kansai between arrival and departure on the San Francisco route will now additionally used for code sharing flights on the Kansai - Honolulu route.
ANA and United started mutual code-share operations in October 1998. With the expanded operation, there will be a total of 18 code-share international routes with 144 roundtrip flights per week.
ANA will continue to cooperate with United to the full extent of its capabilities with mutual benefit, as it has in the past.
As a founding member of the premier global airline network "the Star Alliance", United is committed to providing excellent service and being the airline of choice for its customers.
