The Department of Civil Aviation, Government of Dubai, is to showcase its ambitious US $2.5 billion Dubai International Airport expansion programme at Arabian Travel Market - the Middle East's premier travel and tourism exhibition - which will be held in Dubai next month (May).
The new Terminal 3 and Concourses 2 and 3 will be firmly in the spotlight at the show, which will be held at Airport Expo Dubai from May 7-10.
"Two models of the new Terminal 3 and Concourse 2 will be the focal points of the DCA stand," explained His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President, DCA and Chairman of the Emirates Group. "One model will feature a cross section of Terminal 3, the other will give an external view of Concourse 2. All the development are for the exclusive use of Emirates, the international airline of the
UAE.
"Initial construction ground work has begun and the project is due for completion by 2006."
The DCA has expanded its Arabian Travel Market presence by a third this year with plans for a 200 square metre stand - one of the largest in the show.
"With 13 international, regional and domestic airlines in the exhibitor profile and with the show regularly reaching a travel trade audience in excess of 6,000 from over 80 countries, we have an opportunity to reach a highly influential target market and spread our expansionist message even further," added HH Sheikh Ahmed.
"The Department of Civil Aviation is committed to ensuring that the next phase of the expansion programme is built to the most advanced specifications possible. With the help of the Government of Dubai, we aim to build the most advanced aviation hub, not just in the region, but in the world."
National carriers will also be represented at Arabian Travel Market among the 52 official destination pavilions mounted by international governmental and industry travel bodies.
"Air travel remains a key focus of the exhibition which covers the full spectrum of the tourism industry from destinations to accommodation providers, car rental, to luxury yacht cruises." explained Matt Thompson, Group Exhibition Director, Overseas Events, Reed Travel Exhibitions (RTE), which organises the show.
Arabian Travel Market 2002, the ninth in the highly-successful annual series, will feature exhibitors from 54 countries. For the first time the show will have official participation from Korea, South Africa and Mauritius.
At Arabian Travel Market 2002, Dubai Duty Free will also stage its 'Finest Surprise' car draw with the latest 2002 model Mercedes S500 going up for grabs.
