In a move designed to consolidate the source markets for the emirates tourism industry in the Far East and to attract more tourists to the emirate, the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) conducted a series of roadshows across Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Brunei to a stupendous response from the travel trade.
Buoyed by a 7.09% growth in hotel establishment guests from the Far East in 2001, we stepped up our drive to attract more visitors from this important market segment, said DTCM Director General, Khalid A. bin

We are constantly striving to strengthen the source markets for Dubais travel industry and selected major centers in the Far East for our promotion based on strong growth in hotel establishment guests in key markets including Hong Kong (up 13.13%) and Malaysia (up 35.73%), remarked Mr. bin
Sulayem.
An 18-strong Dubai travel trade delegation led by DTCM Manager Overseas Promotions, Ibrahim Ahli received a significant response at each venue.
The Far East is an important market for Dubai and indicates good potential for the future, stressed Mr.
Ahli.
He assured the travel trade of the DTCMs commitment to the development of tourism between Dubai and the Far East.
The programme at each venue included a speech and presentation by Mr. Ahli and was followed by a screening of the DTCM's Destination Dubai video.
HE Mohammed Ali Al Osaimi, Ambassador, Embassy of the UAE in Malaysia attended the roadshow in Kuala Lumpur. The Bangkok leg of the event was attended by HE Ahmed H. Al Menhali, Deputy Head of The Mission, The Embassy of the UAE - Bangkok while in Brunei, HE Abdullah Hamed Al - Riyami, First Secretary/Charge dAffaires of the Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman in Brunei Darussalam graced the occasion.
To generate added interest in the Dubai roadshows, the DTCM conducted a raffle at each of the five venues giving away a free holiday for two to Dubai. Emirates airline provided two return tickets each at the four venues while Royal Brunei provided two tickets from Brunei to Dubai. Golden Sands Hotel Apartments will sponsor the accommodation while the ground handling arrangements will be made available by the Net Group of Companies. |
