Travel News Asia 19 September 2002

American Airlines announced today that it will increase service in Miami by adding two international flights to its schedule this fall.

The airline will add a second daily flight to London/Heathrow beginning Oct. 27. On Nov. 1, it will begin service to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, a new non-stop destination from Miami.

"American is implementing a number of changes to assure a solid future for the company. We’re strengthening our service in Miami to two destinations which offer great potential as leisure travel markets," said Peter J. Dolara, American's senior vice president for Miami, the Caribbean and Latin America. "Since business travel has decreased, we are looking for opportunities to promote leisure travel."

American will serve the London/Heathrow route with 245-passenger Boeing-777 aircraft and the flight to Punta Cana with the176-passenger Boeing-757. Both feature "More Room Throughout Coach," an American Airlines exclusive.
