Marriott International (NYSE:MAR) has announced today that it has been awarded the management contract for a new 289-room Renaissance hotel in Wuhan, China, that is scheduled to open in 2004.
The Renaissance Wuhan Hotel is owned by Hubei Electricity Development Company and is planned to be one of Wuhan’s premier hotels. Its interior designer will be
Hirsch/Bedner Associates.

Wuhan is the main industrial, commercial and trading center in Hubei. Among the multi-national companies with a significant presence in Wuhan are Budweiser, Coca-Cola, Citroen Renault, Siemens, Ericsson, NEC and Philips. The Renaissance Wuhan Hotel will be located in the Wuchang section of the city.
For dining and entertainment, the Renaissance Wuhan Hotel will have two restaurants and a lobby lounge and bar. Its Chinese restaurant will offer 11 private dining rooms. Recreational amenities will include an indoor swimming pool and a health and fitness center. Other facilities will include a gift shop, a concierge desk, 24-hour room service, valet and laundry service, a business center and a car park.
For social events and conferences, the Renaissance Wuhan Hotel will have 724 square meters of function space including a 540-square meter ballroom that will be divisible into five sections, two meeting rooms each of which will offer 60 square meters of space and a boardroom.
Marriott currently has two hotels in Wuhan flying its Courtyard by Marriott and Ramada Plaza flags.
Other Renaissance branded hotels in China include two properties in Hong Kong and one in Shanghai. Later this year, the 280-room Renaissance Tianjin Hotel is expected to open.
Additionally, the 362-room JW Marriott Hotel Shanghai and the 237-room Shanghai Marriott Executive Apartments are scheduled to open this year. Other hotels are planned to open in Dalian in 2004.
The Marriott International portfolio in China currently spans its JW Marriott, Marriott, Renaissance, Marriott Executive Apartments, Courtyard by Marriott and Ramada International brands. |
