MARRIOTT TO MANAGE NEW RENAISSANCE HOTEL IN BEIJING

Marriott International (NYSE:MAR) has been named to manage a new 212-room Renaissance branded hotel in Beijing that is scheduled to open in the fourth quarter of 2002. When opened, it will be the fifth Renaissance Hotel in China, and the 33rd hotel in Marriott’s lodging portfolio in the country.

Owned by Air China, the hotel Renaissance Beijing Hotel will be part of a mixed use development in the Chaoyang District of northeast Beijing that includes the 12-story hotel, an office building providing 49,359 square meters of space and an underground parking garage for 260 automobiles.

“It is very heartening to see the dramatic expansion of our lodging portfolio in China,” said Ed Fuller, president and managing director of international lodging for Marriott International. “In a little more than 12 years, we have grown from one hotel in Hong Kong to 33 properties spanning all of our international lodging brands in China. Ours is now one of the largest portfolios of hotels in the country. We are also delighted to be joining with Air China on this important project and to see our Renaissance presence expanding in the country.”

For dining and entertainment, the Renaissance Beijing Hotel will have a Chinese restaurant with nine private dining rooms; a lobby bar and lounge; and a casual restaurant serving three meals daily. Recreational amenities will include an indoor swimming pool and a fitness center. Other amenities will include a business center, in-room mini-bars, laundry/valet service and an airline/car rental/tour desk. 

For social events and conferences, the Renaissance Beijing Hotel will have a 426-square meter ballroom and three boardrooms.

Three Renaissance hotels are currently operating in China: the 543-room New World Renaissance Hotel Kowloon (Hong Kong), the 860-room Renaissance Harbour View Hotel Hong Kong, and the 544-room Renaissance Yangtze Shanghai Hotel. The 280-room Renaissance Tianjin Hotel will open later this year and the 289-room Renaissance Wuhan Hotel will open in 2004.
