Virgin Blue has announced it will double the frequency of Perth flights to
and from Melbourne, following growing demand from both business and leisure
travellers.
The Melbourne-Perth route will be increased from one to two return flights a
day with an additional morning service from Melbourne.
Perth-based guests will be able to take advantage of an additional lunchtime
departure to Melbourne that offers a convenient early evening arrival into
the Victorian capital, increasing not just flight options but also the
number of everyday low fares available for flights across the
Nullabour.
Virgin Blue Guests have also overwhelmingly requested connecting options to
Perth from both Brisbane and Sydney and Virgin Blue has responded to their
needs by introducing the connections to the West Coast on the new flights.
Spokesperson, Amanda Bolger said, "We are responding to the obvious need to
increase capacity on the Perth-Melbourne route in light of the fact that the
service has proved hugely popular since the launch late last year. More
importantly, the demand has continued to rise giving us the confidence to
increase our Perth frequencies.
In light of the encouraging support we've had from our Guests, we are eager
to commit more resources to Perth and the 50% increase in frequencies will
mean more people can take advantage of Virgin Blue's great fares and great
service."
Virgin Blue launched its Perth routes in December last year and since then
more than 80,000 people have seized the opportunity to travel between the
East and West Coasts whether it be for work or play, or simply because they
can afford to.
Amanda Bolger continued, " We are focussed on increasing frequencies on our
existing high demand routes to allow for more flexibility and choice,
therefore allowing us to steadily expand our route network across Australia
and overseas as more brand new Virgin Blue aircraft are introduced into
service."
"It's a very exciting growth period for Virgin Blue and we will continue to
respond to market demands, both in terms of expanding services on existing
routes and launching new non-stop services. If the demand and long term
support is there, Virgin Blue will look at fast-tracking our expansion
plans" she finished.
Virgin Blue currently services every State and Territory in the country with
its fleet of 16 aircraft, including the brand new Next Generation Boeing 737
aircraft. Virgin Blue was recently named "Best Low Cost Airline -
Australasia" in the Skytrax Airline of The Year 2002 survey, the industry's
leading passenger survey. |
