The Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketings (DTCM) Environmental Tourism Task Force (ETTF) teamed up with officials from Oman Municipality in a clean up campaign organized in Hatta area where more than 350 volunteers participated.
One of the biggest attractions of the Hatta region is its natural beauty and the water pools and litter in recent times has grown in these areas which necessitated the need for a clean up, said DTCM Manager Licensing and Classification and Chairman of the ETTF, Khalid bin
Touq.
He noted that the co-operation from the civic authorities in Oman was commendable particularly because some of the areas cleaned up in the drive were on the border.
More than 350 volunteers armed with garbage bags and gloves rummaged around the Garheer, Musfoot, New Dam, Heritage Village, Oman Road & Maktoum Valley, Waleeyat and the Hatta pools looking for dirt and garbage.
In addition to cleaning up of the ground surfaces, divers from the Emirates Diving Association cleaned up the pools around Hatta region.
Dubais private sector provided extensive support in the clean up drive including provision of 4WD vehicles, pickups, buses and other amenities.
To encourage the volunteers for their commitment in keeping the community clean and their involvement in the clean up campaign the DTCM provided each volunteer with a t-shirt, cap and certificate of appreciation. The clean up drive was followed by lunch at the Hatta Fort Hotel.
The ETTF was formed by the DTCM last year to steer environmental activities in the tourism and hospitality sector and to play a pro-active role in protecting the environment. |
