Travel News Asia 16 October 2002

Together with all other Shanghai-bound flights from Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Macau, all Dragonair's Shanghai flights will operate to and from Pudong International Airport with effect from October 27. The airport, which was opened in 1999, will serve all international and Southern China flights into the city from then onwards.

"The move to Shanghai Pudong International Airport will allow us to expand the range of services we provide to our passengers in Shanghai," said Stanley Hui, Chief Executive Officer of Dragonair. "It's a modern facility and offers a much wider variety of amenities."

Dragonair will open a 3,528-square-foot lounge at the airport for First and Business Class passengers, and eligible Members of The Elite loyalty club, as part of the enhanced services. The third dedicated Dragonair lounge in the airline's network, it will feature telephone, fax, computer, wireless broadband Internet access and television and refreshments in a relaxing environment.

The airline will introduce telephone check-in in the city. It offers First and Business Class passengers and Members of The Elite carrying only hand luggage the option of checking in by telephone up to one day before departure.

Facilities in Pudong International Airport itself, which is a one-hour, Rmb150-taxi ride from the city centre, include a shopping mall, a wide variety of restaurants, as well as money changing outlets.

Passengers who require further information about the new airport and Dragonair's services and operations there can call the airline's reservations number: (852) 3193-3888 in Hong Kong; (8621) 6375-6375 in Shanghai.

The move to the airport coincides with the start of Dragonair's winter schedule, which will see the airline operate 56 flights a week to Shanghai. The new schedule also sees flights between Hong Kong and Xiamen rise from 12 a week to 14 a week.

Dragonair is a Hong Kong-based airline, operating a fleet of eight A330-300s, four A321s and eight A320s, in addition to two Boeing 747-300 freighters. The airline's passenger network covers 28 destinations across the Asia-Pacific region, while its cargo network connects the markets of Europe, the Middle East, Japan, Taiwan and mainland China.
