Sheraton Dubai Creek Hotel & Towers to re-open next month after multi million dollar renovation

Travel News Asia 15 September 2002

The newly-named Sheraton Dubai Creek Hotel & Towers is to re-open in the first half of October following a massive five-month, renovation - the final phase of its multi-million-dollar property refurbishment.

Almulla Enterprises LLC, the property's owning company, has invested over US $10 million in this latest upgrade phase, which brings the total investment in renovating the unique Creekside property to more than US $20 million over the past five years.

"The hotel is to be completed as planned and will re-open early October delivering to our guests a world-class facility," said James Munro, Area Manager, Dubai & General Manager Sheraton Dubai Creek Hotel & Towers.

"This property, the only one in Dubai located directly on the Creek, now has a brand new look and more Creek-view rooms, which with the new façade provide a stunning view. The hotel also offers Dubai's newest conference facility, enhanced lobby, food and beverage facilities, upgraded rooms with state-of-the-art data connectivity and additional car parking.

"For almost 25 years this property has been an integral part of Dubai's corporate, hospitality, social and tourism sectors. Its vibrant new look, which is in line with the image of modern Dubai, provides us with a superb facility from which to enhance our market-leading role."

The 255-room Sheraton Dubai Creek Hotel and Towers, which has 30 suites, now features a new elegant honed limestone exterior and a stunning, landscaped front entrance with a new spacious lower lobby and direct access to the Executive Conference Centre and Dubai Ballroom. A dedicated elevator gives access to disabled from the street to lobby level.

"Guest rooms and suites now have uninterrupted views across the Creek and of the city," said Munro. "Our average room size is 42 square metres which is well above the industry norm.

"The rooms and suites all have refreshed colour schemes, improved data-connectivity and the latest in electronic door lock systems. Our Tower rooms all now have Grohe hi-tech shower heads and the latest in bedding comfort."

As with the new-look front entrance, natural colour schemes and Italian marble dominate the refurbished, spacious lobby café in the atrium, which features guest escalators and a sweeping grand central staircase. The atrium also boasts sit-down check-in facilities, direct access to meeting rooms and the ballroom and the revitalised Lobby Café.

"The more spacious, split-level Lobby Café, which seats 74, will be the centre point of the hotel activities," said Munro. "It is an elegant, up-market, comfortable and relaxing meeting place which is now surrounded by exquisite Italian marble columns and tall palm trees."

Hotel guests and visitors will receive personalised service in the new-look 'garden-style' Lobby Café where a wide selection of pastries, coffees, teas and an international choice of light food will be served at value-for-money prices.

The Lobby Café will be open daily from 7.30am until midnight with a full menu selection and a choice of cakes and breakfast served throughout the day.

"The design has retained the soothing ambience delivered by the hotel's signature cascading waterfall which has been enhanced with the addition of a beautiful glass pyramid fountain," said Munro.

"The new warm surroundings provide an ideal back-drop to the hotel's renowned professional service and consistently high quality food and beverage operation."

An upgraded business centre, catering to the needs of the modern business traveller, is now next to the conference centre, which, in turn boasts a new hi-tech boardroom for up to 10 people, as well as redesigned and renovated function rooms.

The Sheraton Dubai Creek Hotel & Towers now also features the emirate's newest conference facility with three meeting rooms - the Deira, Dibba and Dhaid rooms - and a board room providing some 320 square metres of meeting space. Easily accessible, the Executive Conference Centre is on the ground floor and has separate entrances both from the hotel lobby and car park.

"Given Dubai's ascending profile as an international Meetings, Incentive, Convention and Exhibitions (MICE) venue, this facility is expected to have widespread industry appeal," said Munro.

The wood-panelled and chandeliered centre is thickly carpeted throughout and equipped with ergonomically designed chairs, modular tables and digital audio-visual equipment, with easy access to power and data outlets. The enlarged ballroom foyer now has natural daylight.

The hotel also has a new pool deck, pool and poolside furniture.

"This al fresco facility, which connects to the Hatta Room to provide an extended single venue, has huge MICE and events potential offering an unsurpassed Creekside function arena," said Munro.

The Sheraton Dubai Creek Hotel & Towers now has car parking for 107 vehicles - an increase of 30% on pre-renovation facilities.

An earlier renovation phase saw a complete upgrade of restaurants, rooms, suites and some conference facilities.

Hotel Design Consultants (HDC), which operates offices in Rome and Los Angeles, was behind the renovation design. The company has previously designed the hotel's hugely popular Ashiana Indian restaurant.

HDC recently completed the renowned Villa La Cupola suite at the Hotel Excelsior in Rome for Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide, Inc. Other Starwood design projects undertaken by HDC include the Royal suite in the Hotel Principe Di Savoia in Milan, the La Quinta Golf Resort in Marbella, Spain and the Turnberry Hotel & Golf Course in Scotland.

Plans for the international marketing of the new-look hotel are advanced and include the launch of special Ramadan packages designed for the GCC market. There will also be a high-profile promotion at London's World Travel Market in November.

"We will be at WTM with a presence both on the Starwood corporate stand and on the Dubai stand organised by the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing," explained Ahmed Baki, Director of Sales & Marketing, Sheraton Dubai Creek Hotel & Towers.

"It is particularly encouraging that despite our five month closure we have retained all existing contracts - which underlines the faith and trust our existing clients have in this property and its service philosophy."
