New Provision of DHL Logistics Services to Benefit Air Travellers and Boost Retailer Sales At Singapore Changi Airport

Travel News Asia 15 November 2002

Air travellers shopping in Singapore Changi Airport can now have items purchased at the Departure / Transit lounge delivered to friends and loved ones overseas. Introduced by DHL Worldwide Express and the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS), this air express delivery service is the first of its kind available in an airport in the Asia Pacific region.

This new service will be piloted from today till 28 February 2003. During this period, passengers using DHL will enjoy a special promotional rate of up to 30 per cent savings. The new air express service for passengers will primarily cover items being sent to destinations other than the passenger’s next stop.

Mr. Charles Chan, General Manager, DHL International (Singapore) Pte Ltd, said, “We are delighted to be working with CAAS on this new initiative. With DHL taking up the challenge to pioneer this initiative, the company continues to contribute to Singapore’s reputation as a premier transportation hub, and exceed the expectations of our customers.”

“Passengers will welcome this service especially during the festive season. They will have peace of mind knowing their Christmas gifts will be delivered safely and on time around the world with a trusted international brand. It is anticipated that over 100 retailers in both terminals and over seven million air travellers will benefit from this partnership.”

Mr Foo Sek Min, Division Head (Air Cargo), CAAS, said, “This new service will be a win-win for both shoppers and retailers in the airport. Our airport retailers will be able to sell products that were previously not practical due to restrictions by airlines as to what can be brought on board the airport, hence increasing the choice available to shoppers. This is part of our effort to enhance the travelling experience through Changi Airport.”

This service initiative demonstrates DHL’s strengths in providing responsive and cost-effective intelligent logistics solutions with its global reach and comprehensive network. Air travellers can expect the added flexibility and convenience of using DHL. The company’s sophisticated yet user-friendly track-and-trace system will allow them to monitor shipments 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
