On 1 May 2002, Malaysia Airlines resumed its Kuala Lumpur - Buenos Aires service.
The service, which was temporarily suspended
from 03 February 2002, is now operating operated twice-weekly using a 386-seater Boeing 747 aircraft with stopovers in each direction in the South African cities of Johannesburg and Cape Town.
Malaysia Airlines flight MH 201 departs Kuala Lumpur at 0105 hours every Wednesday and Sunday, arriving Buenos Aires the same day at 1535 hours. The return flight MH 202,
departs Buenos Aires at 2020 hours every Wednesday and Sunday,
arrives in Kuala Lumpur at 0540 hours on Friday and Tuesday respectively.
The resumption of this service is one of the key objectives of Malaysia Airlines' Business Plan for 2002/2003, whose goals include restoring to previous levels its international network, increasing frequencies to existing routes and developing new routes.
With the reintroduction of this service, Malaysia Airlines resumes its position as the only air carrier from the Asean region to have a direct air link between Kuala Lumpur, the heart of the Asean region, and the South American continent. It also regains its edge as the only airline providing direct air service between Argentina and South Africa.
Malaysia Airlines commenced the Kuala Lumpur-Buenos Aires vv service on 28 March 1994, single-handedly developing a new air route linking South East Asia, South Africa and South America. It is now poised to further develop this vital air link between these three regions, taking advantage of the gradual strengthening of the global economy amidst stabilizing fuel prices and the renewed confidence amongst air travelers arising from the introduction of increased aviation security measures. |
