Dubai’s attractions as an incentive travel destination and business meeting venue will be the focus of a major promotion in Geneva later this month (21st to 23rd May). Under the banner of the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) a 57-strong team representing the emirate’s hospitality and travel sector will take part at the European Incentive and Business Travel Meetings (EIBTM) exhibition in Switzerland.
Announcing the Dubai participation, DTCM Director General, Khalid A. bin Sulayem said, “The meetings, incentives and conventions business is a lucrative and growing sector of the travel business and EIBTM is undoubtedly the leading European business travel fair which makes it essential for Dubai to have a strong presence.”
“About 75% of the trade visitors attending this event are from Europe, which is one of Dubai’s major travel origin markets for both business and leisure travel,” remarked Mr. bin
Sulayem.
“Practically 27% of Dubai’s total hotel establishment guests in 2001 comprised Europeans nationals,” he said.
Mr. bin Sulayem noted that EIBTM attracts more than 3,000 exhibitors from all sectors of the industry including aviation, hotels, venues, convention and tourist bureaus, destination management companies, cruise lines/luxury trains, ground transportation providers, technology solutions providers, incentive houses, conference organizers, entertainment & special events agencies, trade
organizations and business travel publications among others.
Mr. bin Sulayem observed that the event is particularly effective because of an exceptional service for matching destinations with potential customers. “This ensures that the Dubai delegation will have a number of appointments with pre-screened buyer groups from different countries,” he said.
“To provide the Dubai team with a superior platform for their marketing activities, the DTCM has designed the stand incorporating traditional Arabian and modern elements to capture the interest of the European visitors,” said DTCM Manager Overseas Promotions, speaking to co-participants at a pre-fair meeting conducted at the DTCM Head Office.
The DTCM has also arranged for a calligrapher to be in attendance on stand. This attraction has proved to be a major crowd puller during previous participations at the EIBTM and travel buyers have lined up to have their names written in Arabic calligraphy to take back as souvenirs.
Dubai’s reputation as a meetings destination has gained prominence over the years with the emirate being named as the world’s best conference venue in the Business Travel World Awards during recent years.
Dubai combines the facilities and services of a major business centre with the recreational possibilities of a top tourist destination and is ideally suited to hosting international conferences and exhibitions.
The Dubai team at the event will comprise representatives from the DTCM as well as Dubai Marine Beach Resort & Spa, Grand Hyatt Dubai, Hyatt Regency Dubai, Gulf Dunes, Emirates Golf Club, Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club, Dubai Golf Holiday & Events, Royal
