Travellers to world heritage site, Angkor Wat, can now enjoy all the comforts that characterise Cambodia's famed Foreign Correspondents Club (FCC) Phnom Penh, at the recently opened FCC Angkor.
Located next to the official residence of the King of Cambodia in Siem Reap, the FCC Angkor offers a casually elegant environment in which both journalists and non-journalists, traveller or resident can take time out to relax. Encompassing a large open bar and restaurant, outdoor dining terrace, barbeque area and small arcade of shops, this long-awaited addition to Siem Reap's hospitality landscape will undoubtedly become established as the meeting place and dining venue in the area.
Previously home to Government offices and before that the French Consulate, the 40 year-old, traditionally art-deco two-storey building is set amongst beautifully mature and lush, verdant foliage. Sensitively transformed and taking full advantage of its riverside location, the building is now a bright and airy retreat.
Entering on the ground floor, guests can browse amongst the small arcade of handicraft and bookshops, purchase a picnic from the 'Fresco' delicatessen and even book a tour through travel agent, 'Exotissimo'. Moving upstairs, guests may either wind down with a drink at the FCC's trademark large open bar, or choose from international chef, Tom O'Conner's extensive menu of Asian and Western dishes - all prepared in the upper floor's magnificent open kitchen.
Commenting on the opening, Steve Hayward, Director of FCC Cambodia parent company Indochina Assets Ltd (IAL) said," Angkor Wat is one of the world's fastest growing tourist destinations and as such represented the perfected location to open a second FCC in Cambodia. The FCC in Phnom Penh has, since its opening in 1993, acted as a focal point for both local expatriates and tourists alike and is indeed one of the legendary bars in Asia. We believe that the FCC Angkor will be regarded similarly."
IAL Director, Mark Ashall added, "Having taken care to track down exactly the right premises in Siem Reap and to recapture its stylish grace and charm we are confident that we have achieved our aim of providing a relaxed environment in which both residents and visitors, from Ambassadors to backpackers, can take time out from the day's business or sightseeing and enjoy a pleasant meal or a drink whilst watching the world go by." |
