The festive month of December has come alive again with several year-end
activities organised by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) in Bangkok
under the theme "Wonderful Thailand".
Street decorations, shopping festivals, Bangkok Countdown 2003 and lavish
musical dramas will commemorate the 75th birthday jubilee of His Majesty
the King as well as the final month of the 220th anniversary of Bangkok as
the capital of Thailand.
Many roads of Bangkok around the business centres and tourist areas
including Ratchadamri, Ratchaprasong, Ploenchit and Sukhumvit have been illuminated with twinkle lights and glittering decorations and will remain so
until January 15, 2003.
With support from the private sector, TAT will organise the International
Brand Grand Sale on Ratchadamri Road and in nearby department stores, shopping malls and retail outlets like Siam Discovery, Gaysorn Plaza and the
Emporium between December 13-15, 2002.
The festival is ideal for Christmas and New Year shopping.
TAT Governor Juthamas Siriwan commented, "The beautiful light
decorations and fabulous shopping at great value-for-money prices will allow visitors a great opportunity to enjoy the happy atmosphere."
The Bangkok Countdown 2003 is the highlight event designed to celebrate
the New Year with various forms of entertainment at the World Trade
Centre. Spectacular stage performances will continue from 17:00 hours on
December 31, 2002 to 01:00 hours on January 1, 2003.
Mrs. Juthamas added, "The Bangkok Countdown is now a regular annual
feature withthe Ratchaprasong area being positioned as 'The Venue' for people to gather and celebrate the countdown to New Year, similar to those
organised in many countries.
"We hope visitors will come and join us for these festivities, and bring along
their family and friends." |
