Virgin Blue, Australia's true low fare airline, has announced a genuine network wide fare sale, with more than 30,000 $1* one-way flights available from 5pm
(Australia time) today, Friday April 12 for 48 hours or until sold out.
The latest sale is in line with Virgin Blue's long term strategy of offering super low air fares on an ad-hoc basis as part of its "when we do a sale, we do a real sale" commitment.
Virgin Blue's Chief Executive, Brett Godfrey, said, "We believe our everyday fares such as Brisbane-Sydney from $77* or Adelaide-Melbourne from $77* are great deals and we also believe that sale fares should really represent a substantial reduction on normally available fares".
As Australia's only low fare airline, we also strongly believe in providing Australian travellers with a "bonza bargain" at every opportunity to save seats from going empty."
He continued, "Our mandate has been and always will be to provide an affordable alternative to the outrageously high prices of past years and we are unwavering in our promise to do just that."
The $1* Internet only "Bonza Buck" fares will be available when purchased with one of Virgin Blue's great every day low fares as part of a return trip.
The special offer is only available through the Internet for bookings on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday off peak flights and is on sale from 5pm today.
Flights are for travel between 1 May 2002 and 15 June on direct one-way flights when purchased with one of Virgin Blue's every day low fares, available on any day, at any time.
Brett Godfrey continued, "30,000 seats is equivalent to nearly two days of our 737 flying and we consider this a real deal and a real point of difference between Virgin Blue and Qantas.
We have a generous number of everyday low fares available across all Virgin Blue destinations, but to us promoting lowest available fares is not a sale, it's just a part of our normal business. We do however, think $1* fares are something to get excited about, especially when you consider you can't even drive to the airport for a dollar".
He finished, "From past experience, we would urge people to get in quickly if they want one of these $1* flights as the last time we did a sale like this, more than 5,000 bookings were made in the first half hour (or 2 seats booked per second) and they do sell out quickly.
Australian's clearly recognise the difference between a great deal and a dud deal, and we will continue to offer ad hoc great deals for many years to come as we expand our services to even more destinations across the country and overseas."
Virgin Blue currently services every State and Territory in the country with its fleet of 16 aircraft, including the brand new Next Generation Boeing 737 aircraft. Virgin Blue was recently named "best low cost airline - Australasia" in the Skytrax Airline of The Year 2002 survey, the industry's leading passenger survey.
