Martin Guggi, Vice-President Cabin Crews,
SWISS, has resigned from his post with immediate effect. Guggi took the decision in view of continuing tensions with the flight attendant corps. SWISS Executive Management deeply regrets his resignation, and expresses its warmest thanks and praise for his commitment and his sense of responsibility.
Martin Guggi assumed his office of Vice-President Cabin Crews on January 1, 2002 under extremely difficult conditions. Some members of the flight attendant corps regarded his appointment, after several years service as president of the kapers flight attendants’ union, as “changing sides”.
“I find the prejudices against my person extremely unfair,” Guggi says. “But, in the interests of SWISS, I wish to make my contribution to easing the present tensions. I have therefore submitted my immediate resignation to Executive Management today.”
Björn Näf, Guggi’s superior and Executive Vice-President Product & Services, deeply regrets the decision. “Martin Guggi’s resignation should help alleviate the present far-from-satisfactory situation,” he says. “But I am very sorry to see him go. He has made a tremendous contribution to SWISS in these difficult times, and has done an excellent job. And I would like to thank him, on behalf of all of Executive Management, for all his efforts and endeavours.” Guggi will remain within Näf’s Product & Services division. His successor as Head of Cabin Crews will be appointed as soon as possible.
Björn Näf intends to meet with the company’s flight attendants personally next week to discuss the present personnel situation, the latest Collective Labour Agreement negotiations and other current issues.
