Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing targets Mediterranean cruise business

Travel News Asia 10 September 2002

The Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) will be heading a delegation to participate in the forthcoming Seatrade Mediterranean Cruise & Ferry Convention that takes place in Genoa (Italy) from 11th to 13th September.

DTCM Acting Manager Cruise Terminal, Awadh Al Seghayer remarked, “The Genoa event is an ideal meeting place for the region’s cruise and ferry industries and the perfect platform for Dubai to showcase our Cruise Terminal.”

He noted that the Dubai Cruise Terminal has been created to attract more cruise lines to winter in the region, as well as to provide streamlined passenger facilities for the growing number of passenger ships using Dubai as a turnaround port.

“Dubai has made remarkable progress on the world cruise tourism map and the pace has increased since the opening of the cruise terminal in March last year,” said Mr. Al Seghayer.

“We seek to capitalize on the continuing growth potential of the Mediterranean as a destination and source market and meet with top industry leaders,” added Mr. Seghayer.

The DTCM is joined by the three co-participants including Emirates airline, Gulf Agency Company and Orient Tours who will exhibit along side the department at the event.

The DTCM's stand at the event will provide the DTCM team with an ideal opportunity to network with cruise industry professionals while renewing old acquaintances and making important new contacts.

Mr. Al Seghayer noted that the DTCM would also promote the Seatrade Middle East Maritime. “This event promotes the importance and potential of the Middle East and Indian Subcontinent for the maritime industries and is scheduled to take place in February 2003.”
