RADISSON SAS APPOINTS QATAR GSR

10 June 2002

Internationally acclaimed Radisson SAS Hotels & Resorts, which operates nine Middle East and African properties, with five under development in Egypt, Turkey and Lebanon, has appointed Doha's Tourist Travel Bureau (TTB) as its General Sales Representative (GSR) in Qatar.

The agreement was signed between Mike Pilkington, Regional Director, Sales & Marketing, Radisson SAS Hotels & Resorts, Middle East & Africa and Ahmed Hussein, Managing Director, TTB, Qatar's largest outbound travel agency.

Qatar becomes the award-winning hotel chain's third GGC market to get dedicated sales representation, following similar deals in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.

"Last year, GGC travelers spent US$ 27 billion on almost nine million trips, broke the world record for staying in first class hotels and splashed out on average twice as much as Europeans," said Pilkington.

"We are strengthening our GCC sales presence with locally-based representatives to capitalise on the region's huge potential."

TTB will soon launch a dedicated reservations number for Radisson SAS bookings. The telephone number 4426474 will become operational on June 15th.

"The Mid East is the most popular destination for GCC travelers accounting for  over a third of the region's outbound market," said Hussein. "Radisson SAS' strong regional property portfolio coupled with its landmark Radisson SAS Portman Hotel, London, traditionally favoured by Qataris, makes this a win-win partnership," said Hussein.

Radisson SAS Hotels & Resorts operates Middle East & Africa hotels in Amman, Aqaba, Bahrain, Baku, Cape Town, Istanbul, Kuwait, Muscat and Sharm El Sheikh and has hotels under development in Al Quseir, Beirut, Hurghada, Istanbul, and Taba.

Radisson SAS Hotels & Resorts, currently includes 110 hotels in operation and 37 hotels under development in 37 countries and is the sole franchisor in Europe, the Middle East and Northern Africa for Radisson Hotels & Resorts.
