MARRIOTT INTERNATIONAL TO ADD SECOND JW MARRIOTT HOTEL IN INDONESIA

10 June 2002

Marriott International (NYSE:MAR) has announced the reflagging of The Westin Surabaya Hotel to its luxurious, upscale JW Marriott brand. It is the company’s second JW Marriott-branded hotel in Indonesia.

Opened six years ago, the 418-room JW Marriott Hotel Surabaya is owned by PT. Ramasari Surya Persada and joins the Marriott lodging system under a management contract. It is located in the central business district of Surabaya, Indonesia’s second largest city. The international airport is located 25 kilometers south of the hotel and is served by direct flights from many major Asian cities, including Jakarta, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taipei, Johor Baru, Bandar Seri Begawan and Kuala Lumpur.

“We are truly excited to welcome this beautiful property to our portfolio of JW Marriott hotels,” said Ed Fuller, president and managing director of international lodging for Marriott International. “It is a spectacular representative of the JW Marriott brand and will greatly enhance our ability to leverage the attributes of this brand for travelers to Indonesia.”

The owning company commented: “We are sure we are getting the best hotel management company to manage this beautiful property. We look forward to beginning a mutual and fruitful working relationship.”

JW Marriott hotels are the most elegant and luxurious hotels carrying the Marriott brand name and cater to discerning, upscale travelers who value a higher level of personal service and a luxurious environment that is both understated and tasteful.

For dining and entertainment, the JW Marriott Hotel Surabaya offers seven restaurants and lounges including themed French, Japanese and Chinese restaurants as well as a lobby lounge and the “hottest" pub in the city. Recreational amenities include an outdoor swimming pool and a health and fitness center that features three massage rooms. Other amenities include an executive level and lounge with an adjoining meeting room, a business center and retail shops.

For social events and conferences, the JW Marriott Hotel Surabaya has 2,100 square meters of flexible meeting space. Included are a 1,163-square meter ballroom that is divisible into three sections; three individual meeting rooms, each of which can be divided into two sections; a 110-square meter meeting room featuring an amphitheater and a 110-square meter board room that includes a pre-function area.

In 2001, the 333-room JW Marriott Hotel Jakarata opened. Currently 20 JW Marriott hotels are operating in 11 countries, eight of which are located in the Asia-Pacific region. Another six JW Marriott hotels are under construction and are scheduled to open through 2005, including the 363-room JW Marriott Hotel Shanghai, which is planned to open later this year.
