From July, Japan Airlines will add the city of Toyama to its domestic network, with a twice daily round trip flight from Tokyo's Haneda Airport. In JAL's original route plan for Fiscal year 2002 issued in January this year, JAL had hoped to operate three round trip flights a day.

JAL's Okinawa-based subsidiary, Japan TransOcean Air (JTA) will also operate to Toyama in the summer period (July 16 to August 31) with four weekly flights to and from Naha, Okinawa.

Toyama (pop. 321,000) is the capital of Toyama Prefecture in Central Honshu, facing the Japan Sea. It is the center of the Hokuriku (Northern Coast) Industrial Region.
Currently the JAL Group serves 32 airports in Japan, increasing to 35 in July when JAL launches service to Toyama, Yamaguchi-Ube and Okayama (as announced in January). |
