TWA's
integration into American Airlines takes another step forward today as
TWA's employees and flights begin operating from American Airlines
facilities in three cities.
American Airlines is now the parent company of TWA, and is in the
process of integrating TWA into the American Airlines system.
As of today, TWA's Las Vegas, Nashville, and Pittsburgh customers will
find both airlines' ticket counters right next to each other in the
airports' terminals. TWA flights now will arrive and depart from
American Airlines' gates. In Nashville and Pittsburgh, customers will
also now pick up checked bags from American Airlines' baggage claim
areas. At the ticket counters and at the gates, temporary TWA signs will
help passengers find their way. These signs will remain in place until
TWA is fully integrated into American Airlines.
"This summer we will integrate about 10 TWA stations into the American
Airlines system across the country. That is the beginning of a
system-wide facilities integration," said Mark Abels, TWA's vice
president - corporate communications. "Bringing these two airlines
together is a huge undertaking. It's also very exciting for our
employees to finally be working alongside our new American Airlines
co-workers, and we hope it is exciting for our passengers as they see
this integration happening right in front of them."
TWA's Ambassadors Club members already have access to AA's Admirals
Clubs throughout the TWA and American systems. Aviators members also now
have a choice. They can continue to earn Aviators miles when traveling
on TWA Airlines LLC, TWExpress® and TWConnection flights, or they can
join American’s program and choose to earn AADVANTAGE miles for those
flights instead.
The Aviators program will end at midnight on Nov. 30, 2001. At that
time, all members will be eligible to receive an AADVANTAGE mileage
bonus equal to the unused ending mileage balance in their Aviators
portfolio.
When the integration is completed, the combined airline will have
approximately 130,000 employees and will operate a fleet of more than
900 aircraft. As part of its acquisition of the assets of TWA, American
agreed to provide jobs, at integration, for TWA’s union-represented
employees.
TWA Airlines LLC is a subsidiary of American Airlines, and with its
Trans World Expressâ and Trans World Connectionsm marketing partners
serves more than 160 destinations around the world with more than 1,000
daily flights. |
