Graeme
Goldberg, Vice President Operations, Stamford Hotels and Resorts, has
won the 2001 WorkCover Corporation Safe Work Award on behalf of
Stamford’s two Adelaide properties – Stamford Plaza in North Tererace
and Stamford Grand on the beach at Glenelg. This is the first time an
hotelier has won the award, which commonly goes to mining company
executives.
Stamford Hotels have realised measurable results on both safety and
financial levels, from our initiatives in workplace safety and
occupational health.
Specifically at Stamford’s two Adelaide hotels, the challenge is
managing 750 staff, several hundred thousand guests per year, and a 24
hour operation. Safety management was reviewed across the board
including housekeeping, food and beverage, kitchen, reception,
maintenance and security.
So successful were the initiatives taken that they are now being
integrated into Stamford Hotels and Resorts’ six five star properties in
New South Wales, which Mr Goldberg now has responsibility for.
“Quite simply, if we do not measure up in terms of occupational health
and safety, we won’t continue to attract the right staff who make the
hotels a dynamic place for all our clients” said Mr Goldberg.
