Philippine
Airlines, through the efforts of its chairman and chief executive
officer Dr. Lucio C. Tan, was recently named a “Millennium Partner” of
the Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC).
Dr. Tan and Tourism Secretary Richard J. Gordon, chairman of the PNRC’s
fund generation and disaster management committees, formalized the
partnership during the PNRC’s national convention last Thursday, Dec. 6.
At the same occasion, Tan agreed to donate P1 million every year for
five years to the organization.
“This is a tremendous boost to the thousands of Filipinos who work
tirelessly to alleviate the suffering of their fellowmen,” Gordon told
Tan.
As a Millennium Partner, PAL will take an active part in supporting the
PNRC’s disaster management and blood services programs.
Airline employees will also have the opportunity to be trained by the
PNRC in dispensing emergency services.
Even before the Red Cross designation, PAL was already active in
assisting various organizations in disaster relief, particularly in
ferrying food, medical supplies and emergency personnel to affected
areas in the aftermath of typhoons and other natural calamities.
