The Government
of Dubai's Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) pressed
forward with an investment and tourism promotion drive in Mombassa by
conducting a workshop to boost bilateral trade and tourism between Dubai
and Kenya.
More than 200 senior professionals from Kenya's trade and tourism
sectors attended the workshop.
"Organizing workshops in key business centers provides an effective
opportunity to meet industry leaders and investors, and to gain valuable
insights into markets providing us with a unique and dynamic business
information source," said DTCM Director General, Khalid A. bin Sulayem.
He noted that Dubai's trade with the ports of the East African coast
dates back hundreds of years when Dubai was known as "the city of
merchants".
"Through workshops in key cities we touch base with both the business
and travel communities ensuring healthy business contacts and provide
businesses with the opportunity to further explore their specific areas
of interest through one-on-one meetings with DTCM representatives," Mr.
bin Sulayem remarked.
DTCM Executive Overseas Promotions, Khalifa Buamaim represented the
department at the event and said, "We used the occasion to highlight
Dubai's attractions as a regional business base, strategically located
at the hub of a market of 1.5 billion people, taking in the member
states of the Arab Gulf Cooperation Council and other countries in the
Arab world, Iran, the Indian sub-continent and parts of Africa, the
Eastern Mediterranean and former Soviet Union."
Mr. Buamaim reassured the attendees of the Dubai government's commitment
to the development of trade and tourism between Dubai and East Africa.
