QANTAS BOOSTS INTERNAL NEW ZEALAND SCHEDULES

Travel News Asia Date: 6 June 2001

Qantas has increased its New Zealand domestic services following the arrival of a second Qantas Boeing 737-300 aircraft dedicated to the New Zealand market last weekend.

Qantas Regional General Manager New Zealand and Pacific Islands, Peter Collins, said the two aircraft are operating eight flights a day between Auckland and Christchurch and eight flights a day between Auckland and Wellington.

A third Boeing 737-300 would commence service in New Zealand on 23 June to boost the existing schedule and launch weekend flights between Christchurch and Queenstown.

Mr Collins said that by 1 July, with the addition of a fourth Boeing 737-300 aircraft, Qantas would be flying 20 flights a day between Auckland and Wellington and 16 flights a day between Auckland and Christchurch.

"We have introduced fares from as low as $NZ75 one way between Auckland and Wellington, and $NZ89 one way between Auckland and Christchurch. These fares are the lowest in the market, and are available on a wide selection of flights with no advance purchase condition," Mr Collins said.

"These low fares are in addition to a complete new range of fares for the domestic business and leisure markets featuring simplified conditions.”

He added that internal flights from Auckland and Christchurch were now operating from domestic terminals, giving customers access to Qantas Club lounges in both cities and Qantas Valet Parking in Auckland.

Mr Collins added that negotiations over use of the Qantas Club lounge in Wellington were continuing.
