Marriott
International (NYSE:MAR) has been named to manage an 83-unit Marriott
Executive Apartment hotel in Dalian, China that is expected to open in
2002.
Dalian is China’s third largest seaport city and is located on the
southern tip of Liaoning Province. It serves as a major financial center
for northern China and enjoys a strong industrial base, particularly in
shipbuilding and the production of locomotives, machinery and building
materials.
Owned by Dalian Jinzuo Estate Development Co., Ltd., the Dalian Marriott
Executive Apartments is part of mixed-use development on Zhong Shan Road
in the heart of the city near the Dalian Railway Station. The site will
also be home to the 343-room Dalian Marriott Hotel that is currently
under construction. The development will also encompass 80,000 square
meters of office space and 25,000 square meters of retail space.
“We are delighted that Dalian Jinzuo Estate Development Co. has decided
to expand the hotel components of this project to include our Executive
Apartments lodging brand,” said Ed Fuller, president and managing
director of international lodging for Marriott International. “We are
confident that we will be able to offer visitors to Dalian a superior
lodging choice whether they are staying for a few days or a month or
more.”
Offering travelers residential accommodations with hotel-like amenities,
Marriott Executive Apartments are designed to meet the housing needs of
business executives on an overseas assignment of 30 days or more.
The Dalian Marriott Executive Apartments will encompass 83 one-, two-
and three-bedroom units. Hotel-like amenities will include 24-hour
security, a living room, a full kitchen offering dishwasher and
microwave, a dedicated work area and desk, double telephone lines with
voicemail and PC hook-up and VCR, a multi-purpose/game room, resident
service desk and private lounge, on-property resident storage room and a
sundry/gift shop. Additionally, the Dalian Marriott Executive Apartments
will share several amenities with the Dalian Marriott Hotel including
room service, a business center, an indoor swimming pool and health
club. Residents of the Dalian Marriott Executive Apartments will also
have the flexibility of short-term leases.
Marriott Executive Apartments are now located in Hong Kong, Budapest,
Prague and Mumbai and are under construction in Bangkok, Shanghai and
Dubai.
The Marriott International lodging portfolio in China currently consists
of 26 properties embracing seven of its lodging brands: Marriott,
Renaissance, Courtyard, New World, Ramada, Marriott Executive Apartments
and Ritz-Carlton which is operated as a separate business unit. Under
construction are the Courtyard by Marriott Pudong, Marriott Executive
Apartments and the JW Marriott Hotel, all of which are in Shanghai; the
Renaissance Tianjin Hotel and the Dalian Marriott Hotel. |
