Travel News Asia Date: 6 August 2001

Keen hoteliers from 340 hotel chains, which represents nearly 50 percent of Utell’s customer base in the Asia Pacific attended Utell’s first Asia Pacific Customer Conference held in Bangkok despite the softening economy.

In the opening statement made by Mr Mark Wells, President & Chief Operating Officer, he presented Utell’s vision to be the world’s leading hospitality marketing, sales and reservation distribution service centre which echoes the conference’s theme ‘New Horizons – Reach for the Stars’. He was elated to meet enthusiastic participants and assured them that “We made a commitment to ourselves and to you (hoteliers), we will strive to have more heads in your beds, that is to deliver more business to your hotels with our product enhancements.“

“It is evident that we are delivering more business to your hotels, the Great Rate Breaks programme generated an average of US$1 million hotel room revenue per month based on the reservations records from January to May 2001. The positive response came from our strong working relationship and Utell’s marketing efforts in steering business to its members, “ said Mr Michael Prager, Managing Director.

The three day interactive conference served as a platform for hoteliers to address key issues on Revenue & Yield, eBusiness, Reservations and marketing programs i.e. Great Rate Breaks and Summer etc in the panel discussions, seminars and products and services exhibition.

Said Mr Himanshu Singh, Manager, GDS Operations, Taj Hotels, Resorts and Palaces, “The seminars facilitated detailed understanding and helped address specific issues through one-to-one interactions.”

Commented Mr Joseph Skipps, General Manager, Avillion Hotel Sydney “I found the conference informative and fruitful, and I look forward to working even closer with the Utell team.”
