Virgin
Atlantic Airways is pleased to announce a code-share agreement with
Singapore Airlines (SIA) commencing on 1 October 2001.
The deal is a non-reciprocal partnership and will offer passengers
three-times-daily services in economy class on SIA’s
London-Singapore-London service.
From 10 September 2001, passengers will be able to purchase an economy
class ticket on the SIA service which will carry the Virgin Atlantic VS
designator code.
This development in our relationship follows the recent successful
launch of a reciprocal frequent flyer programme, a joint lounge
agreement and a round-the-world Great Escapade fare.
Virgin Atlantic first linked up with SIA’s frequent flyer scheme in
September 1999 when members were able to earn frequent flyer mileage and
redeem travel rewards on one another’s services. Virgin Holidays will be
adding holidays to Singapore to its portfolio.
Steve Ridgway, Managing Director of Virgin Atlantic, said:
“Since Singapore Airlines bought a 49% stake in Virgin Atlantic we have
been working on ways in which we can co-operate in order to enhance our
services for our passengers offering an overall seamless travel
experience across both networks.
“Today’s announcement demonstrates how we can do this by offering our
passengers the chance to enjoy SIA’s award winning economy class service
on their London-Singapore route.”
Virgin Atlantic and SIA operate two of the world’s youngest fleets and
are among the first to order the Airbus A380 which represents the latest
in aircraft technology. Virgin Atlantic operates 34 aircraft to 23
destinations and SIA operates 87 aircraft to 71 cities in 38 countries. |
