More Emirates Flights To Key Business Cities

Travel News Asia Date: 5 November 2001

Extra flights by Emirates, the award-winning Dubai-based international airline, are being introduced on two key business routes this winter.

The flights, which are subject to Government approval, will serve Johannesburg, South Africa and Tehran, Iran, both of which offer fast-growing commercial opportunities. This means passengers from Singapore will have more connecting flights to these destinations from Dubai.

South Africa's economic strength and tourist appeal have prompted a surge in demand. Iran's strong links to Europe, notably Britain, Germany, France and Italy, have kept bookings strong -- month after month.

From 1st December, Johannesburg departures rise from daily to 10 a week, all flown by Emirates' latest quiet, fuel-efficient Airbus A330s. Like the daily services, the new frequencies, carrying joint Emirates/South African Airways flight codes, will leave Dubai International Airport at 9.55am on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, returning next day.

From 1st January 2002, Emirates' daily A330 Tehran services also rise from seven to 10 a week. The new flights leave Dubai on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at 1.55am, returning to Dubai the same morning early enough for a full day's work.

Ghaith Al Ghaith, Emirates' Commercial Operations Director, said this week:

"This will help us to cater to long-standing demand from customers on two very busy routes - which remain so in spite of the world slowdown in civil aviation."

Emirates Airline operates 15 flights a week from Singapore to Dubai. From 1st December, passengers from Singapore can conveniently connect flights to Johannesburg via Dubai on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.
