Lufthansa is
giving visitors to its website three special reasons to celebrate the
40th anniversary of its first flight to Hong Kong.
First, www.lufthansa-greaterchina.com is hosting various internet games,
with three pairs of tickets to Europe as prizes. Then comes an online
booking deal that offers a 40 per cent discount to business and economy
class passengers for flights from Hong Kong to Europe and finally a
bumper ticket auction including European and North and South American
destinations.
"This is a very special time for us," said Juergen Thomsen, Lufthansa's
General Manager for Southern China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau. "The
first scheduled air services between Hong Kong and Germany began when
the inaugural flight by a Boeing 707 Intercontinental touched down at
Kai Tak on January 24, 1961.
"We want to thank our customers for their support over all these years
and, as an airline with its eye very much on the future, we thought our
state-of-the-art website was the best place to do it."
In Lufthansa's internet game, running from January 8, contestants from
Greater China have to spot the differences between two seemingly
identical photographs and take part in a quiz. The highest scores can
enter a lucky draw for the tickets.
The 40 per cent discount will go to the first 100 bookings made online
at Lufthansa's Greater China site in January for travel from Hong Kong
to Europe in February and March. All Greater China users are eligible.
See website for more details.
The airline's ticket auction on February 1 offers bidders 40 pairs of
economy class tickets to 40 destinations in Europe, North and South
America, with Hong Kong to Frankfurt as the first leg of the journey.
The www.lufthansa-greaterchina.com site provides access to electronic
ticketing, full schedules, information on how to plan your trip and
Miles and More details.
Lufthansa German Airlines, named "Airline of the Year 2000" by Air
