Jerry Phelps
brings over 29 years of valuable international experience to his latest
posting as general manager of JW Marriott Phuket Resort and Spa, opening
in December this year.
A native of St Louis, Missouri, Jerry started his hotel career as a
security officer at the Marriott in St Louis in 1972. At that time, St
Louis was Marriott’s 13th hotel; some 29 years later, the company’s
portfolio now has over 2,300 properties.
Before moving to Thailand, Jerry was general manager of the 345 room
Renaissance Wailea Beach Resort on Maui, Hawaii for five years.
Previously he held general manager positions at the Renaissance Houston
Hotel in Texas, Renaissance Vinoy Resort in St Petersburg, Florida and
the Renaissance PineIsle Resort in Lake Lanier Island, Georgia, USA.
From 1983-1986 he served as corporate director of rooms management at
Stouffer Hotels headquarters in Solon, Ohio. Stouffer Hotels were later
purchased by Renaissance, which was then acquired by Marriott. Jerry has
a degree in Administration of Justice from the University of Missouri in
St Louis.
In 1999, he was awarded ‘International General Manager of the Year’ by
Marriott and his property - Renaissance Wailea Beach Resort - also won
‘Hotel of the Year’.
JW Marriott Phuket Resort and Spa comprises 265 rooms, including 13
suites and will be fully integrated within Marriott’s Phuket Beach Club,
consisting of 144 two-bedroom/two bath luxurious vacation villas (at
buildout) measuring 119 square meters (1,282 square feet). Phuket Beach
Club will be under the banner of Marriott Vacation Club International
(MVCI), the Vacation Ownership division of Marriott International, Inc.
(NYSE:MAR). |
