Delightful Changes At Shangri-La’s Rasa Sentosa Resort

Travel News Asia Date: 3 April 2001

Shangri-La’s Rasa Sentosa Resort is ready to welcome guests to its new guestrooms, Rasa Suites (meeting rooms) and The Pavilion, which have been refurbished as part of its S$15 million upgrade that began in September last year.

The Premier Rooms

The brand new Premier Rooms on Levels 10 and 11 combine comfort and luxury with unique features designed to meet the needs of both the business executive and leisure traveller. Powered by a technology-friendly system that gives high-speed Internet connection, guests can enjoy plug-and-play connections at speeds of up to 100 times faster than typical telephone line transmission.

The uniquely designed bath promises to be an unforgettable experience. It offers guests enjoying a leisurely soak a spectacular view of the South China Sea and the horizon beyond! Other thoughtful finishes include a louvre door that takes the place of conventional curtains. This allows ample sunlight to seep through, adding character and warmth to the room.

Modern, Refreshing Guestrooms

Guestrooms and suites on the rest of the nine floors have emerged from the total refurbishment boasting a contemporary look. The interior furnishings are enhanced with warm and soothing earth tones. A sofa bed is now tucked neatly in a corner. It is ideal for lounging whilst enjoying the view from the balcony or accommodating an additional guest without the hassle of having to ask for an extra bed.

Rasa Suites

The eleven Rasa Suites on Level 6 have also been refurbished with modern interior furnishings. Most of these rooms overlook beautiful tropical gardens and are popular venues for intimate cocktail receptions or private banquets for up to 20 people. These ‘daylight’ meeting rooms can also accommodate different meeting layouts, suitable for up to 18 delegates.

Rasa Suite 11 is now The Boardroom. Its breathtaking view of swaying palm trees, Siloso Beach and the tranquil sea makes it the perfect venue for an off-site meeting for up to 14 persons. It also has a large balcony ideal for private breakfast buffets, coffee/tea breaks or cocktail receptions in between meetings.

The Meeting and Catering Services Department is the meeting planner’s “one-stop shop”, always on hand to ensure meetings run smoothly and impressively. The latest audio-visual aids and an extensive Business Centre also complement any meeting held here at the Resort.

The Pavilion

This is yet another meeting/function space set against a backdrop of the sun, sea and sand. The Pavilion is a spectacular room with a 270-degree view of lush hills, a stretch of sandy white beach, the South China Sea and the horizon beyond. Sunshine brightens the room in the day while in the evenings, this room is transformed into a magnificent ballroom with a commanding view of the star-lit sky.

The Pavilion is adaptable to banquets, meetings and conferences of up to 500 persons.

General Manager, Mr George Wee said, “We’re all looking forward to the completion of the entire refurbishment programme in May this year. More importantly, we’re confident that these new rooms will be well-received by business and leisure travellers alike.”

The Resort, which opened on 2 March 1993, is part of the Hong Kong-based Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts which operates 37 hotels in 10 countries, representing a room inventory of 19,000 rooms.
